In this post, we will consider 23 selected Bible verses about Sunday worship and how they relate to the importance of our churches. Monday worship is unimportant if we forget the first day of the week.
The same is true for Saturday and Sunday — but that doesn’t mean that you cannot enjoy God by going to church on certain days of the week.
We must remember God’s word, which tells us to watch over His Church (Ephesians 5:27), watch out for the wolves — especially on Sunday morning — and keep watchmen over their souls (Psalm 91:1-11).
Bible verses about Sunday worship
Every Sunday, millions of believers worldwide gather to worship God. But what does the Bible say about Sunday worship? Every week, I look for Bible verses that are associated with a particular day so that I can learn more about it. This post will look at 23 selected Bible verses about Sunday worship.
Psalm 95:6 – The Heart of Worship.
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
Psalm 95:6(NIV)
We were created to glorify God, you, and I. We find the fulfillment of our innermost longing in God when we bow down in worship of Him.
We have been admonished to kneel before God and worship Him because He is our maker and His love is extended to us.
Romans 12:1 – Holy sacrifice of worship to the Lord.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.
Romans 12:1 (NIV)
Paul fervently exhorts followers of Christ to put all that he has spoken in this important letter to the Romans into practice by offering our bodies as a living sacrifice to the Lord.
In view of God’s incredible love for each of us, we are urged to offer our bodies, our lives, ourselves, and our whole being as a living, breathing, holy sacrifice to the Lord. As fallen sinners, the grace and mercy we have received from God are without comparison.
It is totally due to God’s tremendous grace that we are rescued. Although there is nothing we can do to repay God, we can at least present our bodies to Him in love and appreciation in recognition of its eternal benefits and glory.
John 4:23 – True worship to God
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
John 4:23 (NIV)
The day had come when those who truly worshipped God would do so in accordance with his will, not in earthen temples or stone buildings, nor on the summits of mountains.
God Himself was to train true worshippers on the kind of virtuous conduct He expects from all of His people. They were to glorify and acclaim the Lord in spirit and in truth.
In addition to fulfilling the Law of Moses and the predictions pertaining to His first advent, the Lord Jesus also came to physically represent what God expects of each and every one of His worshipers.
As we submit to the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit and put our faith in Christ Jesus as our Strength and our Redeemer, let us choose to imitate the Lord Jesus in the way He lived so that we too may worship the Father in spirit and in truth.. to His acclaim and glory.
Colossians 3:14-17 – Love in worship
And over these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:14-17(NIV)
Paul gives a quick overview of the key traits and distinguishing qualities that should be present in the lives of everyone who have trusted Christ for their eternal salvation.
As believers, we have been united with Christ and endowed with His own righteousness.
Here, Paul reiterates this message by asserting that the most crucial virtue to exhibit is love. Paul views love as the most important quality. All other mindsets are surpassed by love.
Luke 4:8 – Worship is compulsory
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'”
Luke 4:8 (NIV)
In response to Satan’s offer of heavenly authority in exchange for worship, Christ speaks. Jesus uses Scripture in this instance as well as the others to fight off the temptation.
Jesus decides to follow God and wait for everything to be provided in its proper time rather than assuming heavenly authority right away and avoiding the pain of the cross.
Jesus quotes Deuteronomy 6:13 in this instance. Moses retells a large portion of Israel’s history in that book. He relates the instructions and guidance that God gave them.
Among them are the instructions to trust and to remember. Moses tells Israel in the chapter to which Jesus alludes that it was God and God alone who delivered them from Egyptian slavery.
It would be a dreadful sin to reject that salvation and seek after other deities.
Psalm 29:2 – Exalt the name of the Lord.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
Psalm 29:2 (NIV)
In this verse, David calls upon all Christians to give the Lord the praise and honor He so richly deserves.
His name refers to everything that the Lord is. Both believers and angels are obligated to exalt the Lord. Believers are urged to do all for the glory of God.
Psalm 95:1-2 – Expressing gratitude and praise.
Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. 3 For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. 6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
Psalm 95:1-2 (NIV)
In our singing, we should primarily express gratitude and praise. Individually giving thanks and praising God is conceivable, but if a congregation allowed time for everyone to do that, the preliminaries would take the entire day.
But we can sing together if we want to. Therefore, throughout the ages, both Old and New Testament believers in God have sung praises and prayers of thanksgiving. This has major significance.
We should be careful to avoid singing in a desultory manner because of this. Half-hearted singing is the single thing that makes a service more monotonous. The advice given here is therefore very suitable.
Hebrews 12:28 – Let us show gratitude.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,
Hebrews 12:28 (NIV)
The incredible benefits of our heavenly inheritance in Christ’s coming kingdom, as well as the glory that is ours in Him, come with a dire warning for those who reject Him.
We are made to understand that, since we received a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe.
Psalm 99:5 – Exalt the Lord.
Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy.Psalm 99:5 (NIV)

Psalm 132:7 – Let the Church worship Him
“Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstoolPsalm 132:7(NIV)
Romans 12:1-2 – Let the Church give a sacrifice of praise.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.Romans 12:1-2(NIV)
We cannot repay God, but we may give ourselves to Him out of love and appreciation by surrendering our bodies to Him as a pure and pleasing living sacrifice.
Colossians 3:16 – Worship with the word of God
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16(NIV)
We can learn through the message of Christ how to make changes to our actions and beliefs.
Paul urges people to sing a variety of spiritual tunes. Never does Paul favor one genre of music over another.
Simply stating that we should employ all forms of music to allow the word of Christ to richly dwell inside us, he is making his point.
This singing was to be performed with a spirit of gratitude. Instead of concentrating on ourselves or our own desires, singing praise to God is mostly related to expressing our appreciation for Him.
Psalm 150 – Praise and Worship
Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. 2 Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. 3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, 4 praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, 5 praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.Psalm 150 (NIV)
For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.”Matthew 18:20(NIV)
Jesus taught His disciples about what the Father would accomplish for them when two or three of them prayed in unison over a particular issue before making this straightforward promise.
What a blessing it is to know that Jesus has pledged to operate in and through the adoration and prayer of His people.
What a relief it is to know that He is present with us whenever we come together to fellowship over a meal or even just to break bread and pass the blessing cup in commemoration of Him.
And how crucial it is to maintain Jesus’ HEAD position, which is His rightful place.
John 4:24
God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”John 4:24(NIV)
God wants a worshipful heart that is pure before Him, dependent upon Him, submissive to Him, and full of humility and grace.
Religious persons frequently try to worship God through symbolic acts, man-made rituals, fleshly works, or emotional outbursts.
God is everlasting and is spirit. God created man in His image and likeness, and at the very center of every human being is a spirit that was created for “spirit to Spirit” connection with our God: (a mutual, loving communion with our heavenly Father).

Believers are instructed to speak with one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. We are to make music in our hearts to the Lord.
Psalm 71:8
My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long.Psalm 71:8(NIV)
