Who is Jesus according to the Scriptures?

Jesus Christ was sent into the world to save sinners. He died on a cross to pay the price for our sins. Then, he rose again from the dead and ascended into heaven, where he sits at the right hand of God Almighty and intercedes for us with Him who knows our names and has mercy on us.
It is essential to understand that Jesus is not a person. He is the Son of God and has come to fulfill the prophecies about his coming (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus is God in human form. He was born a virgin, lived in poverty, was betrayed by a friend, executed as a criminal, and then raised from the dead.

Saul, being a religious extremist, went around persecuting Christians. Then, on his way to Damascus, a bright light stopped him as he breathed forth threats and death in pursuit of his goal.
Saul was the only one who heard the voice of the Lord Jesus, who asked him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
Here, God revealed himself to Saul and made him understand that He was the one whom Saul was persecuting.
1 John 4:15 – Salvation Through Jesus

In this Bible portion, we are made to understand that Jesus is the one who listens to our prayers, and He is the one that grants us access to the Father.

John 10:30 – Jesus and The Father are One

Jesus is the one who gives eternal Life so that we will never perish, and neither shall anyone take us from his hand.
He also let us know that his Father, who gave us to him, is more significant than all, and no one can take us from his Father’s grip. This is because he and his Father are the same people.
It shows us that Jesus is our Savior and giver of Life.
Romans 8:38 -39 – Jesus is Love.
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

The Bible has made us understand that Jesus is Love, and because we are convinced that he is Love, nothing can separate us from his Love.
Whether death, Life, angels, principalities, powers, present things, upcoming things, height, depth, or any other element, will be able to separate us from God’s Love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus is Love, and his Love is Supreme and more significant than any other love.

Luke 8:25 – The commander
But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him

In this Scripture, Jesus walked on the sea. His disciples were amazed because they had never seen anyone walk on the ocean before.
They attempted to also walk with him, but they couldn’t, which made them wonder about the manner of man he was.
This is to show that Jesus is the one who commands the wind and the water, and they don’t have a choice but to obey him.
John 12:34 – The Son of God
So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” .

In this study, Jesus preached to the scribes and the Pharisees and told them that if he were lifted, he would draw men to himself.
The people were confused because they didn’t know he was referring to his death.
This lets us know that Jesus is the Son of man and the one who brought men to know God, and as such, as he left the world, he is drawing men to himself, especially those that will keep praising him.
Luke 7:49 – He forgives our sins
The others sitting at the table began to say to themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?

In this scripture, a confident woman who was a sinner brought an alabaster box and anointed Jesus, used her hair to clean his feet, and kissed it.
The Pharisees were against it and told him that the woman was a sinner, but Jesus answered them and said that her sins were forgiven because of her act.
This surprised his disciples and the Pharisees, making them wonder what kind of man he was to forgive sins.
This is to show us that he is the one who forgives all sin.
Mark 8:29 – The Messiah
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah

Jesus asked his disciples who the world said he was. Some said John the Baptist, some said Elias, and others said he was one of the prophets.
He further asked them who they said that he was, and Peter answered that he was the “Messiah.”
Here, Jesus charged them to keep it to themselves. This scripture shows that Jesus is a Messiah.
Luke 7:20 – The One who is and is and is to come
When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else

John the Baptist was a significant character in the Bible. He was a prophet who preached repentance from sin and water baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
When he heard of all the miracles Jesus performed, he sent his disciples to ask Jesus if he was the one to come or if they should still expect another one?
Jesus responded that they should go and tell him how the dead resurrected, the deaf could hear, the blind could see, etc.
But the truth remains that Jesus is the one who was and is and is to come.
John 18:37 – He is the King
Pilate said, “So you are a king?” Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.

Before this time, Pilate and Herod were enemies, but they became friends because they both wanted to kill Jesus Christ!
Pilate asked Jesus, So, are you a King?
Jesus answered that he is a born king who came into the world to save souls and bring truth into the light, and those who know the fact know he is telling the truth.
This is an accurate indication that Jesus is the King of the Jews.
Matthew 26:63 – The Son of God
But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!

In this study, Jesus spoke to a man who was about to execute him, and he answered with all confidence. Jesus knew what he was doing and had no fear of death.
The high priest asked him another question: “Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” “It is as you said,” Jesus responds this time. I am the Son of God, as you have stated. Those words were enough to get him killed!
Now consider this from another perspective: Jesus did not respond with flattery but stated that he was the Son of God.
Indeed, Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.
Matthew 27:40 – Reaffirmed as the Son of God.
“Look at you now!” they yelled at him. “You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross

Jesus once told his disciples that he would destroy a temple and build it back in three days.
This made the scribes and the Pharisees mock him for bringing himself down from the cross with the power he wanted to use and demolish a temple.
Unknown to them, Jesus was referring to himself as the temple which he will die and resurrect on the third day.
He had the power to bring himself down from the cross, but he wanted to fulfill the scriptures for our sake.

John 6:38
For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.
Reading through the Gospel of John, we find that every incident recorded has one purpose: revealing God’s Love for us in such a way that we might believe in him as our Savior and Lord.
The gospel of John begins with the statement, “Jesus is from heaven.” He descended from heaven to carry out the will of God, who had sent him. Jesus did not come down from heaven to do his will or anything else. His entire life was devoted to carrying out the will of his heavenly Father.
1 Timothy 1:15
This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” —and I am the worst of them.

According to the Bible, Jesus came into the world to save sinners. So, of course, we are all sinners, but do we consider ourselves the worst of them?
Paul tells us in his letter to the church in Rome that he is the worst of sinners. Not only that, but he goes even further, telling us that he has fallen victim to his sinful nature. Because he was enslaved by sin, he was forced to do things that were not pleasing to God.
And Jesus Christ saved Paul through his mercy because one of his purposes was to protect us and forgive our sins.
John 6:51
I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world

One of Jesus’s Purposes was to give us eternal life as much as we believe in him.
His flesh and blood in the scripture mean accepting him fully and leaving our sinful Life, giving our Life to him, and taking him wholeheartedly.
Mark 2:17
“And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

It is a popular misconception that Jesus came to earth to save only the righteous. He came to save sinners, admittedly.
Now we know that Jesus was all about helping people, and he knew that it was better for him to help those in need instead of those who had everything they needed
John 3:16
