The Bible verse John 10:10 says, I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.(NIV)
Jesus came to give us life abundantly, but He also wants to restore our relationships back to how they were before we messed them up.
Bible Verses for Restoring Broken Relationships
Are you struggling to restore your relationship with someone? You’re not alone. Relationships can be difficult, and it takes work to keep them going strong. Bible verses for restoring broken relationships will help guide you and give you peace in the process of restoration.
1. Proverbs 25:21.(NIV) – Return good for evil.
If your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.
This verse simply gives us a nature of Christ which is paying back good for evil deeds. This act shows you have Christ in you. We shouldn’t treat people badly because they did the same to us.
One core way of restoring broken relationships is by doing what the other party did not expect. If truly you want back the relationship, then you must be willing to pay back good for all the evil deeds.
When you still respond positively to the need of your spouse or friend in a relationship, it can lead to a change in the person’s heart. Having a good thought towards them can cause.
2. Ephesians 4:29. (NIV) – Your words can either build up or tear down.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
What we say as well as how we say it has a great effect on our relationships. Accusing, criticizing, and mocking others wrongly can leave a big wound over time.
Our ability to use words rightly can either strengthen or weaken our relationship. Many relationships have been broken due to the inability of one to control and use words wisely.
Words are very powerful; it’s capable of building up or tearing down. It was the only tool used by God in creation. it has the power to build or destroy our relationship if not used properly.
Many persons don’t know how to communicate the wrongs of their spouse and this leads to conflict that may be hard to resolve.
In Proverbs 18:21 the bible says, Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Our words have the power to either bring life or death to ourselves and others. It has the power to build or tear down others.
The bible has admonished us to shun perverse words or any word that may bring anyone down. Our words are meant to edify the spirit, soul, and body of another. If truly you desire to restore our broken relationships, we must reach out to those we have hurt with our words for forgiveness and start to use our words rightly.
3. John 13:34.(NLT) – Love changes everything.
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.
Man was restored to God because of the love he had for us. God desired to restore man to himself and the only force that made this happen was his “love”, is love for man compelled him to send his son to reconcile man to himself.
Love has the power to restore a broken and a wounded relationship just as a man was restored to God because of Love.
See: 1 John 4:18
4. John 3:16. (KJV). – Let love be seen in your actions.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Jesus has given us a commandment to love one another, both those who love us and those who hate us. The scriptures show us the nature of God. God is love and he will always restore and draw his own through love.
From the scriptures above we can see that love is powerful and a great key in restoring broken relationships. Anyone who possesses love possesses God himself because this is the true nature of God.
There is no fear or pain in perfect love. Only perfect love can truly mend a broken relationship because in it is the spirit of God. Perfect love covers all sin and gives room for peace and harmony. All you need for total restoration is perfect love.
5. Philippians 2:3.(NLT). – Be genuinely concerned about others
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
Money plays a vital role in our daily activities, but it also has the tendency to interfere with our personal life and things that really matter. If it is considered the topmost priority, then get ready to watch your relationship sink.
Though money adds flavor to your relationship, if not handle with the right understanding can cause great damage. Selfishness and greed have been a barrier to the success of many relationships and marriages.
We are not in a relationship just to gain from others. At any level of relationship, we must learn to consider other people’s needs and well-being. Walking on this path will help us strengthen and sustain our relationships.
For us to avoid selfishness or greed in our relationships, we must learn to be open-minded and transparent to our friends, colleague,s or spouses when dealing with money.
6. Mathew 5:23-24 (MSG) – Be the first to make a move.
Jesus said, “If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out
Oftentimes, we wait for the offender to make the first move in restoring the broken relationship. You don’t have to consider who was wrong on right; all you need now is to initiate the restoration.
Make the first move in making things work again. Take a bold step and walk up to that brother, friend or spouse who may even be the cause of issues.
God wants you to restore that relationship, so you have to stop whatever you are doing and restore that relationship. Be the initiator!
7. 1 John 1:8.(MSG) – Acknowledge your wrongs
If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves.
In restoring our relationships we must learn to acknowledge our mistakes no matter how little they may be in our own eyes.
Many broken relationships and marriages remain the same for too long because both parties have refused to accept their faults. The wife who hurled abuse on her spouse, she hasn’t realized her fault yet, or a friend who betrayed the trust of his friend hasn’t felt the effect of that action on his friend.
External forces are rarely the cause of some broken relationship, the major cause of this is both parties involved directly or indirectly.
Never claim to have no hand in the issues you face in your relationship. Both parties have their own wrongs and each person must acknowledge them.
8. Romans 12:18. (NLT) – Do all you can to live in peace.
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
We must learn to cooperate and make things work for the better as much as possible. If you must restore your relationship, you need to do everything in your capacity for peace to reign.
Maybe you have been hurt several times in your relationship, but you have this belief that things will get better, yes things can get better but we have to do everything possible.
No matter the circumstances or situation we must be ready to make things right and better.
9. 1Corinthians 1:10-12 (ESV) – Unity inspires progress.
“I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.”
As Christians, it is our duty and obligation to work together in unity and peace with believers and nonbelievers. We must learn to be of one mind in whatever we do to promote peaceful co-exstience.
10. James 4:6-7. (KJV) – Be humble to make things work.
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Humility is another powerful key in restoring broken relationships. You must be humble to acknowledge your wrongs and accept all your mistakes. Pride is dangerous and can tear you apart, it can hinder you from relating with the right people and finding true love.
In any relationship, there are bound to be challenges but those who are humble enough to accept their wrongs and make things right succeed in it.
Grace to overcome challenges in relationships and marriage is only available to those who possess the spirit of humility. God hates pride and no proud person can receive anything from God.
11. Hebrews 10:24-25 – Encourage others to be better.
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Rather than reacting to adversity with fear or uncertainty, we should embrace a confident faith and seek to encourage other believers to do the same. Encourage others to be better no matter what had happened.
12. Romans 15:5-6.(NIV) – Live in harmony
”May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
We must learn to live in harmony with our friends, colleagues, or spouses, in doing things we Accept them for who they are rather than the version we wish they were. Allow them to mature and change at their own pace, and choose to accept them exactly as they are at any given time.
13. John 8:32
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
For total restoration, you need to focus on the truth. There are always lies and truth behind any broken relationship and you need to focus on truth and accepted it.
Put behind the lies said by men about your relationships and marriage. Put your mind on what God has said in his scriptures about your marriage. God has a better thought for you.
