scriptures on vision and purpose

This article will explore 17 important scriptures that can help lead you to a vision and purpose for your life. Some of these scriptures come from the Bible, while others come from other sources. They’re all great because they are relevant to every Christian, not just mega-church pastors.

Scriptures on vision and purpose

Many of us generally know that vision is a common goal and purpose has a lot of power. But when it comes to finding an idea or purpose for our lives, often, we lose sight of the most important thing: God. But have no fear. Many scriptures explain the importance of vision, purpose, and even more.

Habakkuk 2:2 -Vision is important.

And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”

Habakkuk 2:2

Habakkuk 2_2 -Vision is important

There’s something significantly important about the gift of sight; having the ability to see a particular thing. As Christians, we don’t only use our physical eyes to see, but our spiritual eyes also. Vision is important and, for everything a person decides to do, you must have a vision for it and also communicate it to others. Only then will they be able to see and, with that, knowledge and understanding will be increased.

Proverbs 29:18 – Vision guide us.

Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.

Proverbs 29:18

Proverbs 29_18 - Vision guide us

Vision gives direction; it reveals our purpose and keeps a person in check. Vision causes order in our steps and serves as a guide. Anyone, thing, or mandate without a vision has a higher tendency of being wayward and breaking down. This also applies to the church of Jesus Christ and His people.

Habakkuk 2:3 – Our visions become a reality when we maintain our faith.

For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.

Habakkuk 2:3

Habakkuk 2_3 - Our visions become a reality when we maintain our faith

When the word of the Lord goes forth, it might not come to fulfillment with immediate effect; it may tarry, but we are to remain steadfast and continue on our journey until we get to where we are meant to be. Only then will that vision become a reality.

Joel 2:28 – The Holy Spirit is accessible to anyone that is willing.

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.”

Joel 2:28

Joel 2_28 - The Holy Spirit is accessible to anyone that is willing

The Spirit of God, also recognized as the Holy Spirit, has been sent to us. He is accessible to anyone who is willing to let Him work in and through them. He aids in the preaching of the gospel, making it easy for all men to easily understand and accept the message of salvation through articles, television, and even one on one evangelism.

Jeremiah 29:11 – God has painted the picture of His vision and revealed it to you.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11

Jeremiah 29_11 - God has painted the picture of His vision and revealed it to you

The Lord God does not wish evil for His children, instead, He plans to give you a future, peace, and hope; and, He wants you to see this: His plan for you. He has painted the picture of His vision and revealed it to you. You have the responsibility to walk in line until the fulfillment of His plan for your life. This is because, there will always be times of trials, temptations, and challenges; things that will aim to cause your faith to stagger and your steps to falter, but don’t give in. Don’t let the devil win.

1 Chronicles 16:11 – There is power in consistency.

Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

1 Chronicles 16:11

1 Chronicles 16_11 - There is power in consistency

There is power in consistency; going for something and not stopping until you get it. It’s the same with seeking God; you have to keep at it, day and night, without quitting. Look to Him for everything you could ever need; depend on Him. Let Him be your strength, guide, and refuge.

1 Corinthians 2:14 – A natural man cannot admit the revelations of the Spirit.

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 2:14

1 Corinthians 2_14 - A natural man cannot admit the revelations of the Spirit

The physical senses are limited and cannot access the things of the spirit. A natural man does not welcome or admit into his heart the packages: the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God. They are almost meaningless to him, and he is unable to recognize or understand them. This is because the natural man is not fully equipped and does not have the capacity to access all the Spirit of God has to offer.

1 Corinthians 2:9 – Physical senses are limited where the things of God are concerned.

But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.”

1 Corinthians 2:9

1 Corinthians 2_9 - Physical senses are limited where the things of God are concerned

The Love that God has for His own is immeasurable, and His plans for them and all those that love him are beyond comprehension.

It takes insight, vision, and the Spirit of God to guide a person into the purpose and will God has for his or her life. This is because the physical senses are limited where the things of God are concerned.

1 John 4:1 – Not every gift, teaching, or doctrine is from God.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 John 4:1

1 John 4_1 - Not every gift, teaching, or doctrine is from God

The Holy Spirit grants, to he who desires it, the ability to discern, and it is of great importance in our world today for every child of God to discern; test the spirits, and see beyond the surface or physical.

Not every gift, teaching, or doctrine is from God and, in order not to be tossed by these falsehoods, you must carefully weigh and examine what people tell you.

Not everyone who talks about God comes from God. There are a lot of lying preachers loose in the world and their mission is to misguide you.

1 Samuel 3:1 – The Lord can only go as far as you want Him to go with you.

Now the young man Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision.

1 Samuel 3:1

1 Samuel 3_1 - The Lord can only go as far as you want Him to go with you

The Lord can only go as far as you want Him to go with you. The same applies to how accessible you can be to the revelations He has to share.

As seen in the days of Samuel not everyone was willing to grant God such access in their lives, and the depth at which they could go with Him was limited.

Their minds were closed, and they relied mostly on their physical senses, but we are to be like Samuel: the special one amongst the ignorant masses. Yearn for God, and desire to hear from Him often.

2 Corinthians 4:18 – There is a world beyond this present world.

As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:18

We are advised, encouraged, and instructed to not rely on our physical senses. There is a world beyond this present world; the things that are here, things we go through, and even all that we own are all temporary and will go away or fade with time.

Set your gaze on things above; in the realm where God exists: eternity.

Acts 1:8 – Our strength lies in the Holy Spirit.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

The primary task of the people of God is to bear witness to his great deeds, and the Holy Spirit makes it possible.

He comes with power, ability, efficiency, might, and boldness, making the preaching of the gospel easy and effective.

The Holy Spirit enables you and gives you strength.

Acts 10:3 – God is spirit and has put that spirit in His children.

About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.”

Acts 10:3

In the things of God, relying on physical senses will fail because they are limited. God is Spirit and has put in His children, the ability to relate with Him on a higher level; beyond physical restrictions.

Acts 16:9 – The words of the Lord are only heard by those who listen for His voice.

And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

Acts 16:9

The words of the Lord are only heard by those who listen for His voice. This also applies to those who desire to gain deeper revelations from Him. Only then, can the eyes of their understanding be opened and enlightened to see beyond what our physical eyes can see.

Acts 18:10 – Trust in God’s plan for your life.

“For I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.”

Acts 18:10

Trust in God’s plan for your life. He will protect and defend, and strengthen you. He will also place people in your life; people who will be instrumental to achieving His purpose for your life, but first, you have to trust Him.

Acts 18:9 – Stand strong.

And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent.”

Acts 18:9

There will be trying times, temptations, and tribulations in the lives of God’s people but, nevertheless, God wants us to stand strong; remain bold and confident. He assures us that He is with us, every step of the way. Despite the fears that might try to set us, He says, “keep your chin up!”.
