Short Bible Verses About Self-love
Psalms 27:3- Be confident
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
Psalms 27:3 KJV
Do you want a biblical guide on truly loving yourself and discovering God’s intention for you? Self-love occasionally carries a negative reputation since it reminds people of arrogance and ego. However, God still commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves.
We have faith that God will protect us from all types of wickedness. God gives us the light we need to drive out the darkness. He is the reason for our salvation. He is our Strength and provides for all of our needs.
What else is there for us to be terrified of in light of all of these? When we are aware that God, the most powerful being in the universe, has our best interests in mind, We have no reason to be afraid because God is with us, and that fact alone should give us enough assurance that God will provide for our needs.
Proverbs 4:23 – Let joy flow in your heart.
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
Proverbs 4:23 (ESV)
We should shield our hearts from outside influences and only let that which strengthens us.
Corruption arises through the things we read, hear, do, and sins we do. We become ungodly if we allow ungodly stuff in. We grow more godly if we allow divine things in.
God’s word stores incredible things in your heart and serves as a defense against false theology. You may safeguard yourself from deceit, heartache, and limiting ideas that rob your life of its joy by placing a guard at the entrance to your heart.
Matthew 22:37-40 – Love your neighbor as yourself
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:37-40 KJV
God commands us in this verse to love and honor the Lord with all of our hearts, minds, wills, and intentions, to love Him in the same way that Christ loved us so that we might continue to enjoy lovely company with the ord, and let us submit every thought to the Lord.
God also encourages us to love our neighbor as ourselves; This doesn’t mean that we must first love ourselves to love others; rather, it indicates that we should take care of and be concerned about others’ interests in the same manner that we look out for our own.
Luke 12:7 – You have value
Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:7 (ESV)
Jesus assured every believer’s life was significant and would be remembered by God. Every action made on earth by every living thing is also known to our Lord.
However, his attention is mostly on our safety because he values it more than we can imagine. In other words, whatever hurts us or concerns us, he cares about.
Ephesians 5:33 – Love your wife as yourself
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Ephesians 5:33 KJV
When a man marries a woman, they become one flesh, essentially one body, and merge into one.
In other words, in the same way, that it comes naturally for a man to love, care for, and protect himself, he should do the same for his wife. Furthermore, Christ, who died for his love of his own body (the church), is the ultimate example of a person who values his own body.
Ephesians 5:29 – Cherish yourself
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church,
Ephesians 5:29 (ESV)
Even if it only involves providing for his physical needs, such as food, clothing, and hygiene, any man with a rational mind will care for his flesh. He is aware that he will pay the price if he doesn’t.
Similarly, if we are in the right mind, we will care for and cherish our spouses since they are a part of us once we know the Biblical truth of this unity.
1 Corinthians 13:1-6 – Be loving to show that you love yourself
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1 Corinthians 13:1-6 KJV
True Christian love always involves putting oneself aside for the benefit of other believers; It is a selfless love that extends itself without asking for or anticipating anything in return. Love is so profound that it can be bestowed upon the unlovable or unattractive.
Love is patient and kind. For the benefit of others, it actively moves and waits. On the other hand, love is incapable of envy or boasting, not even regarding one’s or another’s spiritual gifts.
Romans 5:8 – Christ Father saves us
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 KJV
Even though we may feel alone, we are not. Our Heavenly Father adores spending time with the Holy Spirit and us. Jesus’ sacrifice for us established the minimal quantity of love and godfather that God wants to infuse into our lives through Jesus and the Spirit.
The Father has happy thoughts about us when he considers us. He wants to stand by us in both the good and the bad and to offer us life, hope, and serenity. To have a closer connection with God, we need to have greater faith in his goodness, especially in tumultuous times.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (ESV)
Selfless love is a love that endures forever. It is a kind of love that offers without requesting or anticipating compensation. Because love is so great, it may be given to those who are unlovable or unattractive. Even in the face of rejection, love continues to love.
Love does not demand or anticipate compensation from the one who has shown it love; it gives and loves because it wants to. It doesn’t love to get; it loves because it can provide, and we should be examples of this characteristic of love.
2 Chronicles 20:15
And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
2 Chronicles 20:15 KJV
God wants to demonstrate holiness, love, and Strength in our lives. Therefore we are not meant to fight the battle. Usually, we rely on what is seen, but the conflict that rages around us is frequently spiritual.
However, the victory is visible in a heart submitted to the Lord in humbling dependence and obedient service. We often find it difficult to remain seated and wait before the Lord.
But God commands us to put on the divine armor before standing. Deliverance only appears when we acknowledge that the Lord is in charge of the conflict and when we are positioned in front of him with our gaze fixed on him.
1 John 4:19-21
We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
1 John 4:19-21(ESV)
We should not assume control of the love we possess and exhibit toward others. God loved us before we could love Him, and it is only because of what He has done in our lives that we can love others.
This love is not only a mutual attachment between ourselves and God; as Verses 20 and 21 will further clarify, It has to include love for others. Loving God and others is the essence of acting out of love. This is the Great Commandment, which calls Father’s unconditional love for God and our neighbor.
Matthew 6:26
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Matthew 6:26 KJV
God the Father values his children more than he adores animals which means God will feed those who are more valuable than birds if He feeds the birds that do not plant or cultivate.
Jesus tells His followers to put their faith in God the Father to provide for their needs appropriately and correctly rather than constantly worrying about these fundamental necessities.
Matthew 22:37-39
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 22:37-39(ESV)
To love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, and mind is to obey the greatest and first commandment in the Bible. We are told that love for God and others is the fulfillment of God’s law because we cannot fully love God unless we genuinely knFather as our Saviour and until we are in the proper connection with our Heavenly Father.
Jesus adds a second commandment that is similar to the first after it. To love one’s neighbor as oneself. Loving God with everything we have affects how we view other people. It is not a choice we make for ourselves that has no bearing on how we treat others; instead, it motivates us to love and care for everyone.
1 John 4:17
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
1 John 4:17 KJV
Growing in love with God brings a clear expectation of the coming day of judgment. Future judgments from God need not be a source of anxiety for believers who develop and evolve in their faith. They are following God’s rules after receiving His forgiveness.
The believer lives in this world just as Jesus did. Why does this matter? We become more like Jesus by loving others. We don’t need to be afraid (1 John 4:18); instead, we should enjoy God’s love and demonstrate it by helping others, just as Jesus did. Jesus set a tremendous example for our lives by living among people He served, teaching them, praying for them, serving them, and finally giving His life to others.
Psalm 139:14
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
Psalm 139:14 (ESV)
This indicates that God created people in a way that displays His traits. We bear His likeness. This doesn’t imply that we are the same as the Creator but that we can act in His place.
And how incredible is it to realize that we are the sole members of His creation that bear His likeness? Just that fact alone makes us more valuable!
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 KJV
Anyone who trusts God will be delivered from sin since He loved the world enough to take on human flesh and die in our place. To pay the price for our sins and end its control over us, Christ died a sacrificial death on the Cross.
It reveals that God’s unfathomable love for us was expressed through the sending of Jesus so we can have everlasting life through redemption and God’s saving grace.
Colossians 3:14
And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Colossians 3:14 (ESV)
Because it connects all other virtues, love is the highest virtue. According to the Bible, the entire law can be upheld if one loves the Lord with all of one’s heart, soul, Strength, and mind and loves one’s neighbor as oneself (Mathew 22:35-40). The implication is that the law contains information on how to love God and other people.
Love is compassion, and being honest is part of loving; being kind, humble, gentle, and the patient is the essence of love. The other attributes will be present if one understands and practices love. Thus one need not give each of the Spiritual fruits any thought.
Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 (ESV)
Christ was crucified for our sins, so we have confidence that His death atoned for our sins. In this way, we are crucified alongside Him, bearing our sins together.
The risen Christ “in us” takes the place of that sinful part of us, we still live in the flesh, but our lives are now guided by our faith in Christ rather than our sinful selves.
Short Bible Verses About Loving Yourself
Proverbs 19:8
He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
Proverbs 19:8 KJV
Since wisdom is beneficial to us and should be pursued, we should do so purely out of self-interest, and we love our soul and life by doing this.
Not only is wisdom something to acquire, but it is also something to hold onto. When we maintain our understanding, we benefit and find good all the days of our lives.
1 Corinthians 13:13
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
1 Corinthians 13:13 KJV
Even when the need for spiritual gifts is long gone, love, faith, and hope will endure forever. Therefore, Christianity cannot exist without religion, and being in a relationship with God is only possible through faith in Christ.
Like faith, hope is the assurance Christians hold that God will honor His commitments to future events. Christianity is nothing without faith and hope. They come standard and work for hand in hand.
Psalm 139:14
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Psalm 139:14 KJV
Nobody else is similar to us, and God has only ever made one you, and that’s you. God created you to be exceptional, distinctive, and different. As a result, when God says that you are fearfully made, He means that He created you with wonder, respect, and reverence.
We were made respectfully because God is deserving of respect. We are designed to honor God because He is earning our care.
Mark 12:30-31
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Mark 12:30-31 KJV
The most important commandment is to love God with our hearts and minds since He is the source of all love. We can only genuinely learn how to love by loving God. Christ immediately follows it up with the commandment to love one’s neighbor as oneself because once we place God at the heart of our love, we truly understand what it means to do the same for our neighbors.
Self-love does not need to be saved until we feel we have an excess to share with our neighbors. It was crystal clear in the commandment: love your neighbor as you love yourself. Neither more nor less.
Matthew 22:39
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Matthew 22:39 KJV
When we talk about loving our neighbor as ourselves, we’re referring to that steadfast, disciplined, and intentional dedication to others to always act in their best interests.
Love entails concern and selflessness for others. Love entails encouraging and supporting others. Love, however, also entails criticizing and reprimanding people. Father matter what the cause or goal is, love entails sticking up for the truth when others wish to reject it.
We are commanded to love God with our hearts, minds, and Strength. But it is impossible to say we love God and not love others. Everything comes down to love.
Song of Solomon 4:7
Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.
Song of Solomon 4:7 KJV
How are we so perfect and flawless in the eyes of our heavenly Father? Only God can love us ideally and without conditions, and only an unconditional Father can make a claim “All fair, not a mark,” perfect in Father and beauty.
How beautiful and elegant believers are when they are made righteous in Christ and decorated with spiritual mercies. When their intentions are pure and reflect a gospel-fed heart, even though their words and behaviors are imperfect.
1 John 3:1
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
1 John 3:1 KJV
God’s grace comes from the Father’s heart of divine love, which saves us. The only reason the Father would give His only Son to die as the only perfect sacrifice for our sin is out of love for us.
People hated and scorned us, just as the Lord Jesus was. We also believe in the Lord Jesus because He is God’s Beloved Son buried in the Father’s bosom. We who were dead in trespasses and sins and without hope in the world are now called God’s children since we are in Christ and part of His Body.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
We all have the chance to entirely transform into a brand-new individuals with a brand-new nature and a brand-new life because everyone has the potential to be born of the Spirit of God, washed in Christ’s blood, and adopted into His Body because, through faith, we become a part of God’s new creation.
All those who believe are reborn and clothed in the perfect righteousness of Christ. Old things have passed away, and through the power of the Spirit, we are transformed into brand-new creature that has been adopted into God’s family. Items from the past have died. The old existence is given way to the new; through faith, we have transformed into brand-new beings with a divine purpose and an illustrious legacy.
Mark 12:31
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Mark 12:31 KJV
The second of Jesus’ great commandments is to love your neighbor as yourself, and the secret Jesus Christ gave us to loving others as God loves us is to obey this commandment.
Jesus begins by instructing us that the most important commandment is to love God with our hearts and minds since He is the source of all love. We can only genuinely learn how to love by loving God.
Christ immediately follows it up with the commandment to love one’s neighbor as oneself because, once we place God at the heart of our love, we understand what it means to do the same for our neighbors honestly.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 KJV
This passage describes the basic and purest form of love we should exhibit as Christians. Love, also known as charity, is the most excellent fruit of the Spirit. That’s why we must apply patience, humility, longsuffering, kindness, and meekness in our daily lives and in relating with others.
Christians experience adversity. Those who love as Jesus does when life is challenging do not stop loving. Through difficult days and sleepless nights, love for God and others persists.
1 John 4:7
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

Because love is from God, believers should show one another love, and one of the benefits of having a deep relationship with Jesus Christ is being able to act compassionately toward others.
A saved Christian believer is born of God, and that person ends up knowing God as a result. Without being born again, one cannot love God sufficiently. In addition, without God’s love, one cannot fully love others. Godly love is a sign of salvation for those who show it.
Proverbs 18:12
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
Proverbs 18:12 KJV
Total reliance on God is what humility is because It involves placing your trust in God to act appropriately and on schedule. And Jesus left us with a magnificent promise that will help us get through the gloomy days that lie ahead.

Galatians 5:14
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Galatians 5:14 KJV
The law is the golden rule which states that we should treat others in a way we would like to be treated.
We respect ourselves and are fully aware of how we want to be treated to serve each other; we must put aside our interests and use our knowledge of what we would like because God intended for those who have experienced his love to reciprocate by loving others.
Psalm 139:13
For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
Psalm 139:13 KJV
We are aware that we were made in God’s likeness, according to Genesis 1:27. This text also shows that God knit us together in the womb.
Therefore, we are the creation of God’s omnipotent hand rather than the result of chance or nature. God created each person as unique while they were still inside their mothers. He is the source of our existence, not an option.
Conclusion
We must demonstrate the love of God, which motivates our love for one another and ourselves; it is not enough to say it. Practice self-love, establish emotionally good boundaries, deepen our faith via spiritual disciplines, and celebrate who we are as God created us.
Remember that God truly values and loves us; therefore, adore yourself! Shaming oneself will not help us overcome poor self-esteem. Then, when we show love to others, it extends to those close to us. I’m incredibly appreciative of the Strength of God’s love. Check out the free Bible study Claiming the Promises of God if you’re still unsure of your value to God.
